In commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the death of Cardinal Timothy Manning, St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo is sponsoring a lecture on the life and legacy of the prelate who served the local and universal church for 55 years.

“Cardinal Timothy Manning: The Human Side of a Princely Cleric” will be presented June 23, 7:15 p.m. by Msgr. Francis Weber, archivist emeritus for the archdiocese and biographer of the Irish-born cardinal-archbishop. The lecture will be held at St. John Baptist de la Salle Church, Granada Hills.

Ordained a priest in 1934, Timothy Manning was named an auxiliary bishop of Los Angeles in 1946, bishop of Fresno in 1967 and archbishop of Los Angeles in 1970. He was created a cardinal by Pope Paul VI in 1973, retired in 1985 and died in 1989.

As auxiliary bishop and archbishop of Los Angeles, he ordained 349 priests and confirmed approximately 650,000 people. He took part in two papal elections, including the conclave that elected newly canonized St. John Paul II.

St. John Baptist de la Salle is located at 10738 Havenhurst Ave., Granada Hills. Admission is free. For information, contact the Seminary’s Advancement Office by phone at (805) 389-2035 or email: advancement@stjohnsem.edu.
