• Our Lady of Guadalupe celebrated at St. Louise

    St. Louise de Marillac recently celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe welcoming Los Angeles Auxiliary Bishop Alexander Salazar, who celebrated Mass for the school and parish communities. First graders retold the story of Juan Diego and Our Lady for the congregation during Mass and also were lectors.

  • Mater Dolorosa to renovate Stations of the Cross

    For more than 50 years, the life-size Stations of the Cross at Mater Dolorosa have graced the hillside of the Sierra Madre retreat house operated by the Passionists Fathers – and now a new renovation project will make sure that these beautiful sculptures will continue to inspire retreatants for the next 50 years.

  • Catholic men’s fellowship in Covina

    Men from the San Gabriel Region meet on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 344 W. Workman Street, Covina. The men’s fellowship meeets to pray, share scripture, discuss relevent spiritual, moral and other issues and to of course fellowship. To learn more, visit www.catholicmen.org. Catholic Men’s Fellowship was founded in 1991. In 1997 Cardinal Archbishop Roger Mahony officially recognized it as a lay faith ministry to men.

  • Interfaith Thanksgiving Service at Our Lady of the Assumption

    Our Lady of the Assumption Church will host the annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Service at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26 at the Claremont church. All are welcome.

  • Historic Vine dedicated at San Gabriel Mission

    San Gabriel Mission recently dedicated its historic Original Wine Grape Vineyard Project in the mission’s gardens. The project brought back one of the authentic vines that started the original grape vineyards of the California missions that supplied many missions with wine. The grape vine joins the historic orange tree grove planted in June 2006 in the mission’s gardens. 

  • ‘Bringing Hope to Haiti’: The Jeff Cherubin Foundation fundraiser Nov. 8

    Joe and Rita Domond, parishioners at Our Lady of the Assumption in Claremont, continue to honor the memory of their son Jeff who was tragically killed in a car accident at the young age of 22 in 2004. The Domonds, along with other volunteers, bring hope to the people of Haiti via missionary work done through a non-profit foundation they established in Jeff’s name in 2005.

  • Pregnancy Help Center’s ‘Gift of Life Gala’ set Nov. 15

    Preparations are underway for the Pregnancy Help Center of San Gabriel Valley’s third annual “Gift of Life Gala” to be held Nov. 15, 6 p.m. at the San Gabriel County Club.

  • Durocher Prayer Room dedicated at St. Andrew’s School

    Students, faculty, girl scouts and 11 Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary crowded into the new prayer room at St. Andrew School in Pasadena to dedicate this space of quiet reflection.

  • OLA named Fair Trade Congregation

    Shepherded by its active Fair Trade Ministry, Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Claremont has been named a Fair Trade Congregation, one of only seven in the United States.

  • St. Philip raises funds ro support CRS aid in Iraq

    Catholic Relief Services (CRS) recently received a significant donation from St. Philip the Apostle Church for emergency relief aid work that is taking place in Iraq given the instability of the area in light of terrorists groups who are disrupting families and persecuting Christians.

Jean Beliveau was more than an athlete, though certainly he was a one-in-a-million athlete. The record of his achievements almost defies belief. He played in the National Hockey League for 20 seasons and retired with 10 championship rings.
