Editor’s note: More women are serving in the U.S. military. Currently, there are some 1.9 million female veterans, with 50,000 additional servicewomen projected to join them during the next five years. Of the 230,000 women who have served in Afghanistan or Iraq since 2001, over 750 have been wounded in action, 137 mortally.

Bone marrow drive set Sept. 18 for St. Luke parishioners

TEMPLE CITY — A bone marrow drive will be held Sept. 18 for Alessandra Sanchez and Candace Rodriguez, parishioners of St. Luke Church who have lymphoma and leukemia, respectively, and are in need of lifesaving transplants.

Adopt-A-Family volunteers needed to interview Skid Row families

The Adopt-A-Family family registration process started Sept. 6, but organizers of the Cathedral of our Lady of the Angels’ charity program are still seeking bilingual volunteers (Spanish/English) to help interview about 300 low-income families in the Skid Row area.
