Funeral Mass was scheduled Jan. 24 at St. Brigid Church, South Los Angeles, for Josephite Father Roger Junius Caesar, pastor, who died Jan.18 at age 63 of a sudden and serious illness in Los Angeles.

His body was to be transported to Our Mother of Mercy Church in Houston. Father Caesar will be interred Jan. 29 at Paradise North Cemetery in the Josephite plot in Houston.

Father Caesar was born March 30, 1949 in Eunice, La., raised by Marie Caesar Bellard and foster father Clarence Bellard (he is survived by an aunt and several cousins). He was educated in local schools before beginning studies for the priesthood at St. Joseph Seminary. Father Caesar attended Howard University and received a bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 1973. He was ordained May 14, 1977.

Father Caesar served most of his career along the Gulf Coast, and twice served in Josephite administration, as Consultor General in the 1990s and again as Vicar General to 2011. When his final term ended, he was assigned to as pastor of St. Brigid in Los Angeles. But within two years he suddenly fell ill and succumbed within a week.
