Providence program providing free Tdap booster shots
SAN FERNANDO VALLEY— Providence Health & Services’ School Nurse Program, in partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, is offering free Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) shots this month to children 10 and older and to adults who take care of children. Beginning this school year, state law requires that students in grades 7-12 receive the Tdap booster shot. Clinics will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays in August at various locations in the San Fernando Valley.
Nurses from Providence hospitals in the valley, student nurses and Los Angeles County Public Health Department nurses will administer the shots at the following locations: Aug. 10, St. Elisabeth School, 6635 Tobias Ave., Van Nuys; Aug. 17, St. Jane Frances School, 12950 Hamlin St., North Hollywood; Aug. 24, St. Ferdinand School, 1012 Coronel St., San Fernando; and Aug. 31, St. Didacus School, 14325 Astoria St., Sylmar. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Those bringing immunization records will have them updated at the event.
African American Center hosts Town Hall meeting with archbishop
LOS ANGELES — Archbishop José Gomez will be the keynote speaker at a Town Hall Meeting Aug. 6 (9 a.m.-3 p.m.) hosted by the African American Catholic Center for Evangelization at St. Eugene Church, 9505 Haas Ave., Los Angeles.
