Of the 300 parishes in the archdiocese, nine have a Jesuit connection, either named for a Jesuit saint or staffed by members of the society. Of that number, three have Jesuit clergy (Dolores Mission, L.A.; Blessed Sacrament, Hollywood; and Our Lady of Sorrows, Santa Barbara) and six can claim Jesuit saints — three for St. Francis Xavier, one for St. Robert Bellarmine, one for St. Ignatius of Loyola (the founder of the Society) and a southeast L.A. parish named for one of the youngest saints in the church calendar, St. Aloysius Gonzaga.

The Faces of God: St. Aloysius Gonzaga Church
Welcome is much more than a word at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Church; it is a spirit and a way of life.It is felt when parish administrator Father Pedro Esteban welcomes a visitor at Mass and everyone turns to greet the newcomer or visitor, or share a smile. It happens when a young couple brings their newborn child to the front of church and the family receives a blessing. It is seen in the smiles on parishioners’ faces as they greet newcomers and visitors at breakfast after Mass.
