“Girls were not allowed to use make-up … they wore hats in church … every homework was handwritten … and all the songs and prayers during the Mass were said in Latin.”
It has been 50 years since Patty Chitka, Judy Erickson, Kathy Dougherty, Mary Jane Anderson and Kathy Van Deusen graduated from St. Maria Goretti School in Long Beach.

A large thick rosary that Daughter of Joseph and Mary Sister Ann O’Reilly held in her hands during the June 11 graduation Mass at Our Lady of the Rosary Church symbolized 38 years of directing the destiny — at least academically — of many generations of children at the parochial school in Paramount.
And, to the amazement of the school community, she still greets, by name, every graduate or current student she encounters.

Bellflower parish offers kids of all ages a chance to have fun and learn positive relationship skills.
On the surface, teenagers Jose Luis Gonzalez and Taaj Lewis seem to possess age-appropriate maturity — somewhat remarkable, given what they both say was a less-than-stable home environment in their earlier years with constant fights between their parents.
