Saturday, March 25 - Let the Church Say Amen: An African American Ministry Forum with Dr. Kim R. Harris, 9 a.m., LMU - University Hall, 1 LMU Drive, Los Angeles. Liturgical documents and African-American religious experience from both within and beyond the Black Catholic community have influenced the shape of Black worship in the Roman Catholic context. In this workshop we will explore ways in which, historically and currently, these words, practices, thoughts and feelings encourage and at times challenge key elements indicative of African-American Catholic worship style. Dr. Kim R. Harris was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and is currently a Visiting Professor in the Department of Theological Studies at LMU. She is a Liturgical Consultant for the Office of Black Ministry in the Archdiocese of New York. Kim records and travels the nation, performing concerts, lecturing on the music of African American freedom traditions, and leading music in a variety of liturgical settings.
