The Tidings — which began publishing in 1895 — is the oldest, continuously published weekly Catholic newspaper in the Los Angeles market area. It reaches the homes and parishes of hundreds of thousands of active readers every week via U.S. Mail. The Archdiocese of Los Angeles, the largest Catholic archdiocese in the United States and one of the largest in the world, publishes The Tidings in English and Vida Nueva in Spanish.

The award-winning newspaper reports on local, national and international news that impacts the lives of its readers, their families and their friends. Our readers hold onto each copy for an average of eight days (until the next one arrives) and refer to it several times during that period. This newspaper — as well as it’s Spanish-language counterpart, Vida Nueva, is where readers turn for information they cannot find anywhere else.

The world as it should be

Archbishop José H. Gomez

Catholic social teaching gives us a vision of the world as it could be and as it should be. ... The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the most radical doctrine in the history of ideas. If the world believed what Jesus proclaimed ... every society could be transformed overnight.
