CARDINAL LAGHI --- Italian Cardinal Pio Laghi distributes ashes at an Ash Wednesday service at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington in 2003. Cardinal Laghi, a former Vatican nuncio to the United States who tried to convince Preside nt George W. Bush not to invade Iraq in 2003, died Jan. 10 at the age of 86.
