From north to south: Preparing for 'La Virgen'

text only version

Blessed fire in the form of the Guadalupe Torch was carried throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles over the past two weeks, as a prelude to the 77th Annual Procession and Mass in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Dec. 7.

The torch was received in Guadalupe, on Nov. 15, and was carried to Our Lady of Guadalupe parishes in Santa Barbara, Santa Paula, Oxnard, Hermosa Beach, Cudahy, Rose Hill, Irwindale, El Monte, East L.A. Sanctuary and ending in East L.A. on Hammel Street.

Since 2002, runners representing Mexico's migrant community have brought the blessed fire from the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City to New York City. This year was the first time the Run included a West Coast leg.

The Our Lady of Guadalupe Procession and Mass begins at noon Dec. 7, at the corner of Cesar Chavez Avenue and Ford Street in East Los Angeles. Information: (323) 268-1141 or (323) 269-2733.
