St. Mary's Academy of Inglewood captured the CIF-Southern Section Division IVAA basketball title last weekend March 2 at the Pyramid in Long Beach.
The Belles, coached by Bo Corona, downed Costa Mesa 64-39. With its win, St. Mary's (29-5) earned the No. 3 seed in the Southern California Regional tournament that began March 8. St. Mary's played Exeter (18-3).
Bishop Conaty-Our Lady of Loretto, coached by Manuel Fernandez, was defeated in the Division VA title game by L.A. Baptist, 63-58, to end its surprising season with a 14-12 mark.
Bishop Amat (24-5), which lost in the Division IAA semifinals to Long Beach Poly, will play in the SoCal Division III tournament against Cathedral Catholic of San Diego
In boys' basketball championship games March 3 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, St. Bernard (20-11) was beaten by Pasadena in the Division IIAA finals, but gained a spot in the SoCal Division IV tournament against Francis Parker of San Diego.
Mater Dei (29-4) which lost its championship contest to Artesia for the Division IAA, will open play in the Division II portion of the SoCal tournament against Tulare Western. |
